Overview

In EntreCultures 1, the first in the EntreCultures series, your learners will build the language skills, personal attitudes, and cultural insights necessary to experience life "entre cultures," using French to connect with others.

EntreCultures 1

The standards-based EntreCulturesprogram is all about teaching French language and francophone cultures to novice through intermediate learners through the lens of interculturality. Students discover appropriate ways to interact with a variety of perspectives by exploring the lives of teens across the francophone world and engaging with authentic resources from the beginning.

In EntreCultures 1, vocabulary and grammar are presented in context and with visual support to aid comprehension. The online Explorer^® provides all audio-visual resources, online versions of activities from the student text, supplementary activities for vocabulary and grammar reinforcement, an online portfolio for students to track their own progress, and the searchable Instructional Strategies Toolkit for teachers.

Each teacher edition of EntreCultures provides guidance in incorporating proficiency-based instruction in your classroom, provides ample tips and ideas throughout each unit, and includes a section on teaching strategies.
The EntreCultures series leads with AP^®and IB themes. Teacher resources in the front and end matter of the Teacher Edition outline AP^® and IB themes and subthemes, so you can start your learners on the right foot.
The EntreCultures series is full of unit-aligned authentic resources from more than thirty francophone cultures around the world, like podcasts, news stations, video bloggers, and more.
The U.S.-based authors of EntreCultures, all educators and leaders in the field, considered a variety of learner and educator styles in the backward design of the series.
Assignable Can-Do statements in each unit of EntreCultures 1 show learners a direct connection between tasks and what they are aiming to be able to do in French. Learners can upload completed Can-Do assignments to their student portfolios to show growth, and when it is time to evaluate their learning, students can complete performance-based formative and summative assessments.

A Community Bulletin Board

Learners and teachers alike use the Classroom Forum anytime as their online community bulletin board. Teachers love posting lesson openers, polls, links to external resources, and more. And students can comment, exchange GIFS, and upload audio, videos, and photos.

Learning to hold a conversation

Mock conversations with pre-recorded conversation prompts challenge your learners to hone their conversational skills. Learners record themselves replying to comments and questions, and the recorded conversations can be added to their portfolio as an artifact.

Tracking Their Own Progress

Online student portfolios follow learners from unit to unit, level to level. Students can upload evidence of what they can do in the language - assigned Can-Do statements, activities, quizzes, audio files, PowerPoint and Word files, and more. This allows them to set goals and reflect on their progress related to Can-Do Statements.

Efficient, Integrated Grading

Use the online calendar to remind students of upcoming assignments and deadlines, assign tasks to specific learners or an entire class, and more. Explorer^® lets you know when your students complete their work and alerts students as soon as you’ve graded. Grade each quiz question response without opening each question in Explorer^®. Automatic grading is available where appropriate.
