María Colbert holds a Ph.D. in Romance Languages and Literatures from Harvard University. She has taught Spanish language and literature at Colby College and specializes in Modern Peninsular literature and film.

Colbert was an integral part of the Wayside publishing writing team for Azulejo, along with Abby Kanter, James Ryan, and Marian Sugano.
