This session—led by Alexis Buschert, Instructional Strategist; Amy Rill, Instructional Technologist and Producer; and Kristy Placido, Managing Editor of Supplemental Product Development—explored how AI tools can support interculturality in the language classroom while maintaining ethical, safe, and culturally authentic practices.
The focus of this year’s Grow to Glow series is interculturality: students’ ability to investigate cultural products, practices, and perspectives and interact with others using culturally appropriate language and behaviors. This webinar concentrated specifically on the “Knowing Myself” component of intercultural learning, helping students reflect on their own cultural identities and compare them with those of the target-language communities.

The session concluded with a look at Nuala News, a monthly leveled news feature within Wayside’s Nualang platform.

- A safe, adaptive chatbot conversation that guides students to connect cultural content to their own experiences
This structured environment allows students to practice real intercultural reflection without the risks of open-world AI tools.
