Allison Lau
About
Allison Lau began her academic journey as an architecture major but switched to Spanish after discovering her passion for the language and culture. She earned her B.A. in Spanish from the University of Texas at Austin and has since dedicated her career to teaching, ranging from bilingual elementary education to high school Spanish. Starting with Teach for America in California, Allison also taught in Massachusetts, New Jersey, and various cities across Texas, where she now resides with her husband, Jeff, and their two children, Jeremy and Emily.
Allison's commitment to Spanish education includes studying in Madrid, Spain, and participating in mission trips to Ecuador. She frequently presents at state and local conferences, sharing her expertise in engaging students with the target language, comprehensible input, and student collaboration. She strives to foster a love for Spanish and enhance students' cultural competency. Additionally, Allison writes curriculum for one of North Texas's largest school districts, ensuring culturally authentic learning experiences aligned with ACTFL guidelines. As an instructional coach, she helps other world language teachers refine their teaching practices. In 2024, Allison received the Teacher of Excellence award from the Texas Foreign Language Association and was named Teacher of the Year at her campus. Despite these accolades, she feels most grateful for the unwavering support of her family and friends while authoring this book.
